What is Axle?
What is Axle?
Axle; This part, which is very important for the progress of the vehicle, is the last part that will transmit the movement from the engine to the wheels with a simple expression.
If we explain in more detail, the power in the engine is primarily transferred to the transmission, and the torque generated there is also transferred from the cardan to the shaft, and then transmitted to the wheels along with the axle. While the axle is so important for movement, it is also responsible for the loads placed on it. For this, the material made for the axle must be very durable.
Axle Parts
Passenger cars have two, rear and front. It consists of three main parts: axle bearing, axle seal, axle head, in addition to them, there are also many small parts.
Why Does the Axle Break?
The parts where failures occur a lot are usually the axle seal and the axle head. Under some conditions, there may be breaks in the steel structure.
Its common causes are caused by metal failures, driving conditions and a bad design.
Metal faults: There may be breakage due to some small errors while in production.
Driving conditions: When driving in bad road conditions constantly, breakage may occur due to the joints and axle strain.
Poor design: Axle designs that will not be able to properly break down the weight to be mounted on, and are also weak in design, may be prone to breakage. For example, if we give an example, some of the axles are not of equal lengths, so the disproportionate distribution of the load in the turns can cause breakage.
Axle Repair
Thanks to some circumstances, we can understand that your axle has failed. For example; excessive shaking of the steering wheel, hard gear changes reflect the problem in the axle. If you neglect these problems and continue to drive your car, the entire axle of the vehicle may break down. Therefore, we should not neglect their care. When repairing, the fault is detected first. Then the parts connected to the parts to be changed are also removed and a new one is installed. Finally, all parts are re-seated and torqued before the test drive.
